Curriculum Design

This web site was a collaborative effort designed and produced in 2011 during my tenure as Director of the School of Web Design & New Media at the Academy of Art University. The body of work presented so artfully in this site is the culmination of my many years’ experience in curriculum design, the generous contributions of exceptional instructors, remarkably talented students and a design industry receptive to my approach.

The homepage for the curriculum website.

In an effort to communicate the extensive nature of my curriculum, I required a web site specific to our department, something that would reveal love of visual design, typography, web & interactive design, motion graphics, video, imaging, photography and more. I asked our midpoint web classes to submit design solutions for the site in the form of a competition. Specifically, we asked our site to be coded using HTML so it would be accessible on mobile devices. Accepting the challenge, students proposed many wonderful designs. After much deliberation, I asked our finalist, Paul Fletcher, to proceed with his design. Paul worked diligently with all of us in BFA New Media to create the final site you see here.

Over time, BFA WNM used this site to help define us, inform prospective students and interested design companies about our students and the exceptional program developed to meet the demands of the design industry. Daily blog entries became an essential way of communicating the latest events and opportunities for my students.

I believe this site defines the collaborative nature of my approach to design education, the broad range of the unique curriculum developed over many years and the exceptional talents of the our students. Enjoy!

The faculty page detailing all the administrators and instructions of the department. Our daily blog entries became an essential way of communicating the latest events and opportunities to our students. This page served as a wonderful platform for displaying all the projects that our students worked so hard to create.
